Abstract

In the fall of 2019, the presenter took a one-semester sabbatical with a goal of visiting other individuals, groups and institutions that do high-altitude ballooning in order to learn something about their operations, experiments, programs, etc. Further goals included attending some high-altitude ballooning conferences and making new HAB contacts. In the process, nearly two dozen visits were made across the US as well as in Canada, Japan, UK, France, Germany and Poland. This presentation will have two main parts: the first giving a brief overview of this activity and the second describing a part of the sabbatical that focused on the use of hydrogen in ballooning.
