Abstract

Delgado Community College and Dillard University, Atmospheric teams with the Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project worked together at the same site in Morrilton, Arkansas launching every 30 minutes over 30 hours.  We will present our results from these flights and compare them to a historical baseline from Little Rock Arkansas.  In addition, we will compare our localized findings from the center of the shadow to the seven flights from Little Rock taken on April the 8th.

We are interested in exploring differences seen in the upper atmosphere from the edge of the eclipse coverage to the centerline where we experienced totality.  Data collected from the Wyoming University Weather Web radiosonde archive from the week surrounding April 8th will be taken from 2018-2023 and compared to the seven flights from the April 8th eclipse.  These April 8th flights from the edge of the eclipse coverage will be compared to the flights launched by Dillard University and Delgado Community College. Variations in localized temperature, pressure, wind, and humidity in both altitude and location that are observed will be highlighted.  This research hopes to illuminate the effects of the solar eclipse on atmospheric conditions.
