Abstract

Dr. Hisauro Garza, Director of the Southwest Center for Human Relation Studies and the NCORE, is an author, lecturer, and consultant for national institutions and research efforts, including the Institute for the Study of Social Change at the University of California, the American Educational Research Association, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), and the United States Department of justice. He holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in sociology. His experience includes nine years as professor of the Department of Chicano and Latin American Studies at California State, Fresno. He has co-authored several research and evaluation reports including "From the Fields to the Future;" and "Enhancing the Education of Migrant Students through Increased Parental Involvement" with his wife, Dr. Susana Mata. Dr. Garza has received many honors, including the prestigious University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Ford Doctoral Fellowship.
