Abstract

Colorism manifests itself in the media through the casting of lighter skinned actors into key roles in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience. The topic of colorism from media sources was chosen in the hopes of shedding light on an occurrence that affects daily interpersonal relationships. One possible solution for the effect of colorism in the media is to adjust the selection process to ensure the equal representation of actors and actresses in stories that promote their equal status as humans of equal value. Furthermore, it is important that individuals within society begin to take the personal steps to be aware of the content being digested and its effect on interracial relationships
