Abstract
This session will address the struggles of queer and/or transgender students of color (QTSOC) on college and university campuses and provide strategies to better support students with intersecting marginalized identities. Many campus resources (such as multicultural centers and LGBTQIA+ centers) available to students demand QTSOC to navigate singular identity spaces, muting other aspects of their identity. As such, campus resources and affinity spaces regarding QTSOC rarely reflect their holistic identity. Using Astin’s Inputs-Environment-Outputs (I-E-O) student development model, we determined where the gaps are in supporting QTSOC and present recommendations for student affairs practitioners, educators, and institutional leaders to better support QTSOC on college and university campuses.
