Abstract

The Swahili proverb "umoja ni nguvu" translates quite literally to "unity is strength." This presentation will center around the significance of cultivating a sense of community through resilience during challenging times. Through personal narrative, the presenter will delve into their personal journey, beginning in their native country, Kenya, and tracing the chain of events that have led to their current station in the US.

Throughout the presentation, the presenter will share insights into how they discovered a sense of community and belonging in various aspects of their professional and personal life, emphasizing how these connections have provided a solid foundation for their journey. They will spotlight their experiences as an immigrant Woman of Color, shedding light on the challenges they have overcome with the support of the communities that surrounded them.

Interwoven with these challenges will be success stories that have not only shaped their narrative but have also provided platforms for continuous learning and growth. This narrative aims to inspire the audience by illustrating the power of unity, resilience, and the strength derived from a supportive community.
