Abstract
Pivotal educational history for Blacks was made in 1954 with the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka Supreme Court decision. This decision laid the legal groundwork for equity in educational opportunities for African Americans and other minority populations within the United States. College students, their parents and many African Americans often know little and do not fullyunderstand the significance of Brown and why it is vital to American history. The session will serve to provide an educational overview of the cause and effect of the Brown decision and will describe how to build upon Brown for the future.
