Abstract

This abstract focuses on a portion of a community outreach project that addresses the well-being and capacity development of adults with I/DD through curriculum and mentoring. Prior to program delivery, participants were surveyed to gauge knowledge/skills across planned content areas and results then guided curriculum design. In the pre-assessment, only one participant indicated ease in deciding what to wear; 3 of 8 had difficulty when dressing for a special occasion; and 2 of 8 said they had a hard time picking out clothes daily. As a follow-up response, 3 of 8 participants specifically indicated that they did not know how to put outfits together. Thus, an objective of one curriculum module was to provide a definition of apparel basics and help individuals with I/DD style these basics for various activities or settings. This abstract overviews the approach and outcomes of the technological teaching strategy used to satisfy this objective.
