Abstract

The importance of local sourcing is increasing day by day as the product life cycles are getting short, lead times are getting narrow, and imposing of tariffs makes it difficult to get competitive pricing. Therefore, the goal of this research was to investigate the challenges of local fabric sourcing in Bangladesh and identify the scope of improvement. A case study of Epic Group in Bangladesh was conducted to achieve this research goal. Results identified several challenges in local fabric sourcing from Bangladeshi fabric mills such as technical limitation, lack of technical experts, weak research and development, failure to meet commitment, lack of raw material, limited number of export-oriented mills, and poor communication skills. Future research could be done on identifying process specific gaps in terms of production planning, control, and management and provide Bangladeshi industry leaders with corrective measures and how to act upon them.
