Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study is to evaluate and compare sustainability supplier scorecard assessment tools that are currently in use among five international apparel retailers, who disclose such information publicly through their websites and within sustainability reports. Identified apparel retailers include the companies: Walmart, Eileen Fisher, Nike, GAP Inc., and H&M. Inductive content analysis was used to study the raw textual data and to create evidence-based inferences when organizing, integrating, and interpreting codes. To the researchers’ knowledge, this is the first study to examine and analyze sustainability supplier scorecard assessment tools used within the apparel industry.

Keywords: sustainability, scorecards, suppliers, retailers
