Abstract

The fact that girls’ clothing is less functional than girls has been echoed on social media and in the popular press. Despite this frustration from parents and young girls alike, academia has paid little attention in published work to these concerns. The basis of this ensemble draws from the data of a larger childrenswear study that exposes the disparity in functional design. This work applies the findings of the data while additionally consulting parents and young girls. With a young girl as a consultant through the design process an ensemble that addressed the disparities found in the larger study and her insights using the FEA framework (Lamb & Kallal, 1992).
