Does Integrating Sustainability Content into an Online Introductory Fashion Curriculum Improve Student Learning?

Abstract

Textile waste has been increasing at an alarming rate. Fashion students need to be aware of sustainability issues in the fashion industry to combat this problem. To educate students about sustainability in an introductory online fashion course, assignments such as extra credit and videos were implemented. To determine if students improved in their overall learning with the implementation of sustainability content, students' overall course grades were compared between students who completed sustainability assignments, such as extra credit and video-based assignments, compared to those who did not. The results of this research are favorable towards the incorporation of sustainability content into online introductory fashion course curriculum.
