African American Newspapers and Periodicals: Sources for the Study of Fashion, 1890–1910

Abstract

The major goal of this descriptive study was to examine the types of fashion information disseminated in selected African American newspapers and magazines published between 1890-1910. The newspapers examined included The African American Baltimore, the Atlanta Independent, and The Savannah Tribune. The magazines examined included The Colored American Magazine and The Voice of the Negro. Generally speaking, these African American publications spanned 1890 to 1910.
