Abstract

The challenge of this design was to accentuate the positive in the mature figure using the unusual double-faced wool and angora fabric. Manipulation of the fabric uncovered a contrast of five colors that provided the inspiration for this kimono sleeve princess dress. The colors are both subtle and bold with the surprise element of gold, a nice translation for the mature yet still full-of-life woman. The princess and top sleeve seams were constructed as reverse seams and unraveled to emphasize the body contours. The fringed stand-up collar softly frames the face, and the silver gray of the dress complements the skin and hair.
