Abstract

Dotty Diva was inspired by my love for historic costume. I have always wanted to design a garment with panniers; however, I also wanted it to have a fun modern look. I accomplished this by making the skirt knee length and by using fun, unusual fabrics, including ball fringe and silk shantung that I dyed. The separate skirt is made of two layers of silk organza: one in black and red polka dot and the other in black. Twenty darts create the desired silhouette over the custom-built panniers. Due to the transparent nature of the fabric, French seams are used for the skirt construction.
