African Glory
- Sanet Roos (Potchefstroom University)
Abstract
African glory is a tribute to the Ndebele people of South African and an effort to capture the enchanting spirit of the tribal wedding dress of their people of the past. The ensemble consists of a black crushed peachskin A-line skirt, a black crushed peachskin fitted bodice, and a white plain peachskin apron in panels. The bodice and apron are beaded with bold glass beads in bright traditional Ndebele colours and motifs. The same design inspiration was repeated on the skirt but was executed in satin ribbon.
