Abstract

This ball gown is a contemporary design of silver gray taffeta with black accents. The design is very feminine, emphasizing the natural curves of the body, and was created using the draping method. Three devices were used from period costumes: lacing to create fit, pin tucking to create fit, and bustling to create an abstracted form. The silhouette is changeable due to full-length casings in the skirt that carry cords, allowing the wearer to bustle up the skirt to reveal an underskirt. The dress is also enhanced with open back detailing.
