Abstract
The design challenge was to create an evening coat and matching dress which were dyed to match a bamboo motif in purchased burnout chiffon. Three fabrics of different fiber content were hand-dyed and used in the dress. The coat is an understated design with a single closure at the neck and opening slits in the side seams up to low hip level. The coat was designed to be worn open and reveal the dress front. Fabric for the dress was pleated using the traditional Arashi Shibori method.
