Grey Flannel Suit
- Kaoly Xiong (University of Nebraska)
Abstract
This original ensemble is a feminine version of the man's 1950s business suit. The suit is in three pieces and was created by the draping method in solid and striped medium weight gray flannel. The focus is a shaped bustier created out of diagonal fabric strips that overlap each other. Hand-beading using black jet beads in a star burst pattern created another element of distinction, and the structure is reinforced with boning. After trends were studied, the ensemble was developed with a bolero jacket with three quarter length sleeves and, rather than full length pants, capri pants were developed to give the suit a feminine yet casual influence.
