Reduced Graphene Oxide Coated Conductive Hemp Yarn for Wearable Electronic Textiles
Abstract
The interest in electrically conductive textile yarn has been increased rapidly in recent years due to its wide variety of applications in wearable electronic textiles. In this study, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) coated electrically conductive hemp yarn was prepared via modified hummers method. To assess the electrical conductivity of reduced graphene oxide coated hemp yarn, the resistance of the treated hemp yarn was measured using a digital multimeter and it was found 3.5 KΩ/cm whereas the untreated yarn acts like an insulator (resistance of insulators is infinitely high). The conductivity of the coated sample was also confirmed by using the coated yarn as electrical connections to lit up a red LED under 3.5 V. Finally, the potential applications of conductive hemp yarn in wearable electronic textiles were discussed.
