Abstract

Criticism of the fashion industry's practices has led to a search for more sustainable solutions. Fashion resale significantly contributes to this goal, and China’s fashion resale market has great potential to grow. However, the literature on the Chinese market is limited and lacks buyers' perspectives. This study aims to gain a clear picture of Chinese consumers' online reselling practices. The semi-structured interview was conducted to fulfill research purposes. Five participants were recruited via Idle Fish, the largest resale platform in China. The findings revealed major factors for fashion resale practices, motives and challenges to resell, and values associated with participants' resell practices. Our findings indicate that China’s fashion resale platforms need to improve the authentication service and better regulate to avoid counterfeit items for healthy development.
