Tube-to-wear – A shaped garment template for 2-bed flat machines achieved by jacquard knitting
Abstract
The v-bed machine is today's market's most widelyused flat machine type. A typical v-bed knitting machine has two beds and isused primarily to produce shaped pieces, requiring seaming with links-linksmachines. Machinery solutions for sew-free whole-garment knitting include doublingthe number of needle beds to four, or using half-gauge needles. This projectaims to develop a design solution to achieve whole garment knitting on a 2-bedflat machine. A template was designed from a tubular pattern and jacquardtechnique. A dress inspired by the beauty of jellyfish was knitted with silkand polyester yarns. The pattern was designed from the template with side seamstapered to the body and mesh flare on the sides and neck to represent the beautyand flow of jellyfish. The natural curls of the fabric edges are built into thedesign to represent the strength and determination of modern females.
