Abstract

Nowadays, more and more fashion enterprises are starting digital transformation to enhance competitiveness and meet market demand. This study aims to explore inter-functional coordination (IFC) within apparel companies in the context of digital transformation. This study adopts the case study method and conducts in-depth interviews with a well-known Chinese apparel company that has successfully transformed from a traditional enterprise to a digital enterprise. Based on coordination theory, the findings explore the driving forces of IFC, the implementation of IFC through digital transformation, and the outcomes of IFC in the apparel industry. More specifically, the research provides insights into how different functions collaborate and share information to achieve common goals and improve organizational performance. By leveraging digital platforms, companies can improve IFC by streamlining processes, facilitating seamless communication, and data sharing across functions. The study also highlights the positive outcomes of an effective IFC, such as data-driven decision-making capabilities, cost savings, and increased efficiency and competitiveness. The theoretical framework of this study provides valuable insights into understanding the potential of IFC in the digital transformation process of the apparel industry. It lays the groundwork for future research in this area.
