Abstract

The study investigated knowledge domains and digital competency in fashion merchandising and proposed a Fashion Digital Intelligence Framework (FDQ) to enhance digital competence in the current digital era. The research was grounded in the Apparel Merchandising Competency (AMC) and Digital Competency Framework (DigComp 2.2). We gathered a total of 20,015 distinct job postings in fashion merchandising from Indeed.com. LDA-based topic modeling and content analysis were employed to investigate the core competencies required in current jobs. The results revealed 18 fashion merchandising competency topics based on LDA-topic modeling. Additionally, the study put forth an FDQ framework consisting of 7 critical digital competencies in the field of fashion merchandising. This framework contributed to the existing theoretical literature by highlighting the significant role of digital competence within fashion merchandising. The study's findings also offered valuable guidance to fashion educators and practitioners in developing digital competency guidelines for fashion merchandising.
