Abstract

The rise of apparel reselling continues to revolutionize the fashion industry. With full autonomy over how to style, showcase, and photograph products, sellers have engaged with product photography in unimaginative methods. Users have flocked to popular online consignment apps such as Etsy, eBay, Depop, etc. In these online communities, textual descriptions and product images are key determinants in influencing e-shoppers' purchasing decisions. This qualitative study explored and provided online sellers with insight into the impact of their product images through various key selling dimensions, such as lighting, product display, use of models, background, and angles. Revision and analysis of various online articles, blog posts, and academic journals were conducted to gather wise and poor apparel styling tips for online selling and construct a styling guideline and scale for which online apparel sellers may utilize. These guidelines can allow sellers to develop valuable entrepreneurial skills in a competitive online market.
