Abstract

This project used wearable art to address the urgent issue of marine pollution. Inspired by Daniel Beltrá's Oil Spill #4, the design integrated sustainability with advanced techniques like laser cutting, dip dyeing, and computer-aided design. Featuring a corset bodice and a detachable, fishtail-inspired hem, the garment symbolizes marine life affected by pollution. Original motifs, including ripples and octopus imagery, were engineered into the design to evoke depth and urgency. The rigorous creation process involved ombre dyeing, precise laser cutting, and applique, showcasing a commitment to craftsmanship and innovation. By blending aesthetics with environmental advocacy, this design raised awareness of marine ecology and promoted sustainable fashion practices. The project exemplified the potential of wearable art to inspire action and advance sustainability in the fashion industry.
