Abstract

Contemporary Interpretations of Matisse is inspired by the French artist of the impressionism era, Henri Matisse. It consists of a corset strapless top, low waisted skirt with a sheer panel hem, and separate neck piece accessory with hand beaded details. This design's purpose was to merge the ideas of art and fashion together to show how they work hand in hand. Like Matisse’s paintings, this design exhibits rich, vibrant colors, an abstract silhouette with layering, and unique textures such as beading that drape along the neck piece and hand pleating along the bust. There is dimension in the design with the sheen of the fabric and light displayed in the beads. The design was drafted with draping techniques and flat patterning to ensure a sculpted fit that showed structure along with being wearable. The colors, textures, and silhouette encourage a uniqueness and creativity for consumers.

Keywords: contemporary, pleating, beading
