Abstract

An innovative and industry-collaborative approach to teaching Retail Merchandising Mathematics was developed. The curriculum included a pre-course assessment, a buying project assignment, collaboration and guidance by industry professionals, presentations to students in the pre-requisite course, and post-course assessments. This approach enabled presentation of content in ways that made it relevant to students' future careers. Analysis confirmed student growth and learning in a way that bridges the gap between student classroom-based learning and industry applications.
