Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the orientation angle of center facing arms on stretchability (elongation) of 3D printed textiles with two different cellular auxetic structures. An experimental research design, consisting of 6 (auxetic structure textiles) x 3 (repetition), was employed. By identifying commonly used auxetic structures for 3D printed textiles, one re-entrant auxetic structures (re-entrant) with orientation angle of 25o, 30o, and 35o and one floral based auxetic structures (floral) with orientation angles of 100o, 105o, and 110o were developed using fused depositing modeling 3D printing method. The findings indicated that 3D printed textiles with both re-entrant and floral structures exhibited enhanced elongation with the increase of orientation angle, making textile products more flexible and potentially providing better wear comfort. The findings demonstrated potential to enhance elongation of 3D printed auxetic structure textiles for ensuing comfort by adjusting the orientation angle of center facing arms.
