Love or Arranged? Relationship of "Wearable" and "Technology" from 2014 to 2016
Abstract
As an initial attempt to gauge the wearable technology (WT) evolution in the most recent three years, this qualitative research explored the changes in major trends and patterns within WT domain. The researchers examined the first 20 news articles that populated the Google "news" section when "Wearable Technology" was searched for each year, using word cloud and theme extraction. In 2014, the words that described the WT trend were "paradigm" and "shift," suggesting that the sector was evolving and going through changes. In 2015, words such as "competition""created" and "surge" indicated that many companies had found their product ideas and that rivalries were developing in the market. In 2016, words such as "team" "collaboration," and"knowledge" showed that to succeed in the market, companies were looking for collaboration and knowledge from different sectors. This collaboration trend needs to be carried into academia to produce successful workforce for WT sector.
