Abstract

The open data initiatives remind the educators about the needs for data literacy in future workforce. It is important for us to enable our students to handle and use raw data in a meaningful way. Most data related to textiles and apparel in the global economies a rereadily available due to the historical importance of the sector. I started using data from the OTEXA primarily because it was the primary data source that our students would encounter in their career. During the past decade, World Bank, WTO, ILO, and UN all made their data available online along with user friendly data extraction and interactive analysis tools. This paper illustrates the sources of useful data to expose our students to large scale data, primarily in the textiles and apparel in the global economies subject. The paper also includes simple practices that students performed.
